PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Some of Portland’s busiest travel days are coming up on June 15 and 16, according to the Portland International Airport.
PDX expects to serve more than 60,000 passengers daily on those days and on August 8 and 15. An additional 20 days in July are expected to have more than 60,000 travelers, and 64,000 on July 18 and 22.
During the summer months, PDX anticipates about 5.3 million passengers total, which would beat the record set last summer by 7%.
The airport has added 7 new nonstop flights and more flights in 2016, and air carriers are offering 31 more flights than they did last summer.
International travel is more popular during the summer months, and PDX officials say travel to Europe doubles.
With all the increased air travel, PDX is working with TSA staff and the Port of Portland is hiring 16 additional contract security officers through Labor Day to help with line management.
The airport offers entertainment in the terminal and businesses inside the airport offer promotions and extended hours for the busy summer season.
PDX urges travelers to arrive at least 2 hours before their flights to allow time to park, get to the terminal, check in and go through security.
