Suspect in custody after threatening to shoot police

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A suspect is in custody on Tuesday morning after barricading themselves in a home in SE Portland and threatening to shoot police.

A homeowner called police to report a man in his shed on SE Rhone Street around 9:30 a.m.

The Portland Police Bureau’s Special Emergency Reaction Team (SERT) and Crisis Negotiation Team (CNT) responded and negotiated with the suspect and eventually convinced him to exit.

He did not have any weapons on him and police say the incident was a mental health case.

Traffic was closed on 136th Avenue from Powell Boulevard to Bush Street and on Rhone Street from 136th to 141st Avenues but is reopening as the scene clears.
