MARION COUNTY, Ore. (KOIN) — A 19-year-old Gervais man died Friday morning when his car left the road and slammed into a tree, deputies said.

Michael Vanwoert was negotiating a curve on Jefferson Scio Drive when he crashed head-on into a tree. Speed is believed to have been a factor in the crash.

The 3200 block of Jefferson Scio Drive was closed for an investigation.

Deputies are reminding motorists to drive with caution and obey posted speed limits.
