CAMAS, Wash. (KOIN) — A passenger in a car involved in a crash at a Camas intersection Wednesday evening died at the scene, according to police.

The 2-car crash happened at the intersection of NE 3rd Avenue and NE Hayes Street around 5:35 p.m., Camas Police Dept. said.

Investigators determined a 76-year-old driver was heading north on Hayes when their 2002 Mercury Mountaineer collided with a 1997 Ford Escort going east on 3rd.

Viola Jessett, 85, was driving the Escort with her husband, William “Bill” Jessett, in the passenger seat. Bill was unresponsive when emergency crews arrived on scene.

First responders attempted CPR but were unable to revive him, police said.

Bill was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Mountaineer wasn’t injured in the crash. She reportedly stayed on scene and cooperated with investigators. No criminal charges have been filed.

NE 3rd Avenue was closed for over 3 hours following the crash.

The investigation is ongoing.
