PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A 44-year-old Vancouver man was killed Sunday in a fiery crash on I-5 southbound near Jantzen Beach.

Benjamin Craig King died after a tractor-trailer didn’t stop for traffic and slammed into the back of his Suzuki sedan, authorities said. The Suzuki was then crushed between the semi and a Lincoln Town Car.

A fourth car, an Oldsmobile, was also hit during the crash.

The Suzuki burst into flames and King died at the scene.

The truck driver, Bruce Kelbert of British Columbia, stayed at the scene and cooperated. Investigators said there did not appear to be any signs of impairment or distracted driving. The 51-year-old was issued a careless driving citation as the investigation into the crash continues.

The other 2 drivers and their passengers were taken to hospitals in Portland and Vancouver for treatment and are expected to recover.

Traffic on I-5 southbound through Hayden Island was closed for nearly 6 hours, police said.
