REDMOND, Ore. (AP) – A grand jury has indicted two teenagers with the attempting to kill of one of their mothers.

Deschutes County District Attorney John Hummel said in a Friday news release the boys were indicted this week for attempted murder, conspiracy to commit murder, conspiracy to commit arson, assault and unlawful use of a weapon.

The charges stem from a May 19 incident in which authorities say the 17-year-olds conspired to kill one of their mothers and burn down her house with her body inside.

Prosecutors allege that the woman’s son hid in the house and sprayed his mother with pepper-spray and struck her on the head with a baseball bat when she arrived. After several strikes, prosecutors say she wrestled the bat away and called 911.

Police arrived and arrested the teens, who are in custody at a juvenile detention facility.
