CLACKAMAS COUNTY, Ore. (KOIN) — A thief shot out the locked glass doors at a Fred Meyer store late Wednesday night after stealing baskets of money from the self-serve checkout lanes.

Surveillance video shows the man walked around the store at 14700 SE McLoughlin until it closed at 11 p.m. He walked in and went to the self-service checkouts as the tills were being emptied.

The thief then stole 2 baskets of money and made his getaway. Fred Meyer workers tried to stop him, but he pulled out a gun and fired through the locked exit door and fled, authorities said.

He got into a gray 2013 Kia Sol with no license plates, which police found abandoned not far from the store. That car may have been stolen from a nearby car dealer, police said.
