LONGVIEW, Wash. (KOIN) — A 36-year-old man was arrested for assaulting his ex-girlfriend and shooting at police officers when they tried to arrest him on Monday morning.

Brent Luyster allegedly pistol whipped his 32-year-old ex-girlfriend, who is the mother of his child. The woman called police after the assault and told them about the incident.

When police responded to arrest Luyster at his house, where the assault took place, they heard gun fire from the woods nearby. Deputies thought he was shooting at them but no one was injured. They eventually talked him into surrendering.

Luyster was booked into the Cowlitz County Jail and charged with assault in the 2nd degree, 9 counts of unlawful possession of firearms and reckless endangerment.

His ex-girlfriend’s injuries are not life-threatening but she remains hospitalized.
