SWEET HOME, Ore. (KOIN) – A former volunteer wrestling coach for Sweet Home High School has been arrested on allegations of luring a minor and the online sexual corruption of a child.
The investigation started earlier this week, according to the Sweet Home Police Department.
On Thursday, 25-year-old Joel Aranda appeared in court. A not guilty plea was entered on his behalf.
Police tell KOIN 6 News that they got a report from the Sweet Home School District after they received information about communications between a Sweet Home High School student and Aranda.
Aranda had been a volunteer wrestling coach with the Sweet Home High School during the 2015-2016 school year.
The concerning communications were discovered by the student’s parents, according to police.
Detectives are asking anyone who believes that Aranda has had illegal contact with them or their child to contact Detective Cyndi Pichardo at the Sweet Home Police Department or Detective Ryan Padua at the Lebanon Police Department.
In a statement, the Sweet Home Police Department said it would like to remind parents of the potential dangers of social networking sites and asks that you would closely monitor the activity of your underage children on-line and on their cell phones.
Aranda remains in the Linn County Jail and is due back in court on May 23.
