PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A 37-year-old motorcyclist was killed Thursday morning in a Southeast Portland crash.

Police say the motorcyclist collided with a U-Haul truck on SE Powell Boulevard at 48th Avenue. The motorcycle was reportedly driving above the 35 mph speed limit when it crashed into the U-Haul which had made a left into a parking lot.

The 33-year-old U-Haul driver remained on the scene and cooperated with investigators. There is no sign he was impaired or distracted at the time, police said.

Powell Boulevard was closed from 43rd to 50th Avenues for several hours.

The Traffic Division’s Major Crash Team is conducting an investigation.

Traffic fatalities in Portland are up, despite the city’s Vision Zero pledge.

The motorcyclist’s death marks the 12th fatal accident in 2016.

There were 6 traffic-related deaths this time last year.
