PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Two people are in custody after a woman was stabbed and seriously injured near the Portland City Target Wednesday afternoon.
The stabbing at SW 10th and Alder happened just before 1 p.m., police said.
“Blood everywhere,” witness Sarah Sutton described. “All over the sidewalk, all over the other person, it was just really gruesome.”
Police received good descriptions of the assailants, a man and woman, from witnesses. The suspects were later found and apprehended in Old Town.
36-year-old Travis Peterson was booked on assault charges and an outstanding parole violation.
Sutton says she believes the pair may be homeless. She recalled seeing the victim and 2 suspects screaming in the middle of the street about pills and money. Detectives confirm Peterson and Buie know each other and say the stabbing was the result of a dispute over a backpack.
The victim, 26-year old Tiffany Buie, was taken by ambulance to a Portland hospital for treatment. She was also arrested on 2 outstanding warrants.
The woman accused in the attack was also injured and taken to a hospital. Investigators believe she was wounded in the initial stabbing. She was not charged in this case.
