Bicyclist seriously injured in North Portland crash

The driver, a man in his 80s, reportedly stayed at the scene

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A bicyclist sustained serious injuries Wednesday after being struck by a car at a North Portland intersection, police said.

The crash occurred around 7:20 p.m. at N Rosa Parks Way and Delaware Avenue.

Emergency response crews found the bicyclist, 36-year-old Brian Duncan, with serious injuries, police said. He was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

The driver, 84-year-old Louis Hellbusch, reportedly stayed at the scene and was cooperative.

Officers say Hellbusch was driving west on Rosa Parks Way when he failed to stop at the red light on Delaware. Duncan was in the crosswalk at the time.

Hellbusch wasn’t cited or arrested, but the investigation continues. Police say any possible criminal charges or traffic citations will be issued after the investigation is complete.
