Saiki said that Jerry Waybrant, the Chief Operating Officer for Child Welfare and Self Sufficiency programs and Lois Day, the Director of the Child Welfare program were both terminated effective immediately.

Waybrant’s position will be discontinued and DHS Deputy Director Reginald Richardson will serve as interim Director until a permanent replacement is selected to replace Day.

“When the Governor asked me to serve as the Director of DHS, she made it very clear that one of my top priorities was the safety of children entrusted to our care. She had serious concerns about some of the incidents that came to light over the past year, and I share those concerns, too,” Saiki said in a news release.
