LONGVIEW, Wash. (KOIN) — A fire that likely began in a garage-turned-bedroom destroyed one house and threatened another in the early hours of Saturday in Longview.

Around 4:40 a.m., Longview firefighters went to 293 28th Avenue as flames and smoke were visible from several blocks away. Crews quickly attacked the fire and stopped it from spreading, but needed 30 minutes to extinguish the main fire. They spent several hours battling other hot spots.

One person was treated for smoke exposure. There were smoke alarms in the house but residents told authorities it was the sound of the fire that alerted them.
