RIDGEFIELD, Wash. (KOIN) — The Clark County Republican Convention was held Saturday in Ridgefield.

In addition to other party activities, people picked delegates for the state convention.

Those delegates will go to the statewide Republican Convention, which will be held in Pasco in May. At that time, they could be picked to attend the national convention in Cleveland.

Security at the national convention was a topic of discussion, in light of Friday night’s protests at a Donald Trump rally in Chicago. People hope by then, tension between opposing groups will die down.

“I don’t think we had a lot of protests at the national convention in Orlando, but I think there is the possibility of that. Maybe some people are thinking about that in Cleveland this year. Maybe that’s not a friendly environment, maybe that’s going to sway whether some people want to attend the convention or not,” says Peter Sililman, who is a delegate to the state convention for the 18th District.

Early in the delegate selection, many potential delegates were voicing support for Republican Presidential Candidate Ted Cruz.
