Young boy hit by car in Keizer dies

Driver stayed at the scene and cooperated, police said

KEIZER, Ore. (KOIN) — Despite being rushed to a hospital, a young boy died after being hit by a car in Keizer Friday night.

Around 7 p.m., the SUV hit the 8-year-old boy on River Road between Sam Orcutt and Sunset, Capt. Jeff Kuhns with Keizer PD told KOIN 6 News. The boy was rushed to OHSU but succumbed to his injuries and died.

Police say the boy, Jaren Nash,and his mother were crossing River Road North from west to east when Nash was hit. They were not in a crosswalk and it was dark and wet at the time.

The driver stayed at the scene and cooperated. The investigation is ongoing.

Nash attended Schirle Elementary School in Salem.
