ST. HELENS, Ore. (KOIN) – Nearly eight months after a 30-year-old man died from an assault, a Columbia County grand jury indicted a 49-year-old man with murder.

Randall Lee Pritchard appeared in court on Tuesday and was arraigned on a grand jury indictment that charges him with the death of Christopher Earl Heller.

According to the sheriff’s office, the investigation started on July 21, 2015 when deputies responded to a residence in the 68000 block of Whitney Road in the Goble area. Before paramedics arrived, Heller had been taken to a Longview hospital by private vehicle. On July 28, 2015, Heller died.

Details of the assault were not released. However, the South County Spotlight reported Heller suffered a skull fracture.

Pritchard turned himself into sheriff’s deputies shortly before his court hearing. Defense attorney Jason Glenn Short declined to comment.

A not guilty plea was entered on Pritchard’s behalf, who is being held without bail in Columbia County.

A trial date has not been set.
