PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — U.S. Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia has died.

The U.S. Marshals Service in Washington confirmed Scalia’s death at a private residence in the Big Bend area of South Texas.

The service’s spokeswoman, Donna Sellers, says Scalia had retired for the evening and was found dead Saturday morning when he did not appear for breakfast.

The conservative and provocative Justice was 79.

Scalia was appointed to the court by President Ronald Reagan in 1986.

President Obama and the First Lady had been informed about the Justice’s death. They expressed their deepest condolences to Scalia’s family.
