MADRAS, Ore. (AP) – The criminal case against a Jefferson County couple in connection to the death of an infant is moving forward despite a defense attorney’s objection to one of the indictments.

The Bulletin reports that 25-year-old Raine Austria and 21-year-old Garry Lee Vineyard II are charged with murder by abuse, manslaughter, criminal mistreatment and other crimes in connection with the March 30 death of Katerina Austria.

An attorney representing Austria argued the indictment was too vague, but a judge denied the request to have the charges laid out in three separate cases.

According to their indictment, Austria and Vineyard caused the death of 1-year-old Katerina by neglect and maltreatment.

The couple is accused of withholding food and medical attention from the child.
