PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Uncle Spliffy made his keynote remarks to the attendees at the Cannabis Collaborative Conference Thursday morning.

Uncle Spliffy, also known as former Portland Trail Blazer Cliff Robinson, appeared at the convention for people involved in the budding cannabis industry to learn about starting businesses and getting jobs.

Robinson said the industry needs to set a high bar.

“We all want to make money,” he told the attendees, “but we also want to make sure that we do it right.”

Now that medical and recreational marijuana is legal in Oregon, Robinson is getting into the cannabis business under the name Uncle Spliffy. He wants pro team doctors to consider treating pain and other ailments with cannabis instead of pharmaceuticals.

“I think we definitely have to continue looking into cannabis and the benefits that it has, the health benefits that it has, because I think it’s come leaps and bounds,” he told KOIN 6 News in January.

At the conference, he said other states looking at legalizing pot are keeping an eye on the way Oregon handles it.
