PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Elephants Lily and Samudra got wet and wild as they enjoyed a new pool that’s now part of the Oregon Zoo’s Elephant Lands.

Elephant Lands opened to the public on December 16.

The new space is about 6 acres, roughly 4 times the size of their previous spot.

Zoo leaders call it a new era for the elephants, designed to promote animal welfare and herd socialization, connecting outdoor areas with communal indoor spaces.
