STAYTON, Ore. (KOIN) — A Stayton teenager was critically injured when the car he was driving was sliced into pieces after hitting a tree around 1:30 a.m. New Year’s Day.

Timothy Colblentz was pinned inside the Nissan at Fernridge Road and Siegmund Road SE, the Marion County Sheriff’s Office said. The 17-year-old was rushed to Stayton Memorial Hospital and later airlifted to OHSU.

Authorities said they believe the teen was speeding, the only contributing factor in this crash.
