PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Though the official filing deadline isn’t until March 2016, Ted Wheeler submitted all the paperwork to become a registered candidate for mayor of Portland.
Wheeler, currently the Oregon State Treasurer, announced he was running for mayor in September. At that time, Mayor Charlie Hales was planning to run again, but he later decided not to seek a second term.
In a statement, Wheeler said he expects “more people will get into this race. That’s a good thing, because I want to have a robust debate about the issues facing our city.”
“I’ve got a reputation for bringing people together to solve problems and that’s exactly what I intend to do,” Wheeler said.
