HOOD RIVER, Ore. (KOIN) — A woman whose body was found in a trail of fresh blood in Hood River early Tuesday morning has been identified, and police are now investigating the case as a murder/suicide.
Wendy Hildreth, 48, was reported missing just before 10 a.m. Tuesday.
A jogger called 911 around 1 a.m. after discovering the trail of blood. Detectives followed it and found Hildreth’s body. She had had reportedly been dragged about 300 yards from the Family Man Staging Area in Hood River.
Investigators learned Hildreth recently sought a restraining order from her husband. The couple was in the process of divorcing, Hood River County Sheriff’s Office said.
Deputies discovered blood outside of the pair’s home at 4390 Wooded Acres Drive. Michael Hildreth, 58, was found dead of an apparent suicide in a detached shop building near the house.
Evidence found at the Family Man Staging Area was reportedly consistent with evidence discovered at the home. A Subaru in the home’s carport had traces of blood inside and outside, and parts of the car were reportedly missing.
Autopsy results show Hildreth died as a result of blunt force trauma.
The couple’s children have been notified of the situation.
