PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — The Portland Police Bureau Sunshine Division delivered thousands of holiday food boxes Saturday to families in need.
Nearly 2,000 boxes were given directly to families, according to a press release, and an additional 1,500 were given to non-profits for distribution.
Inside the box was everything for a delicious Christmas meal: turkey or chicken, pumpkin pie, dinner rolls, margarine and fresh produce.
Albertsons Safeway, Fred Meyer, Shari’s Restaurant and Pies, and many other corporate sponsors donated the food.
Hundreds of volunteers helped pack and deliver the boxes, including Portland Police Officers, Air National Guard members and Portland Mayor Charlie Hales.
