PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — Police say the investigation of an alleged assault at Lewis & Clark College has been suspended because the man who reported the crime no longer wants to participate in the investigation.

The black student told police last month he was punched and kicked by three white men on campus, and they shouted racial slurs.

Sgt. Pete Simpson of Portland Police Bureau said Tuesday the student has told detectives he does not want to take part in the investigation or in any subsequent prosecution.

Simpson says detectives were unable to identify any suspects, and there is nothing further to investigate without new information.

The alleged attack and racist comments posted on a social media site triggered protests at the Portland college.
