GRESHAM, Ore. (KOIN) — The sinkhole that opened up near Mount Hood Community College in Gresham earlier this week could keep that stretch of Kane Drive closed for several weeks.

City engineers are working on both a temporary and longtime solution, Mayor Shane Bemis said Friday, which includes a very large replacement culvert to allow Kelly Creek to flow without obstruction.

The road on Kane Drive between Division and Stark is closed after nearly 6 inches of rain fell over 3 days. It washed out the road after debris got trapped in the culvert and the force of the water took over.

Bemis said the city will update the progress of the project on the Gresham city website. Detour routes will also be available on a city site.
