Cavalier driver faces homicide, DUII charges

WHITESON, Ore. (KOIN) — The driver of a car that went into a ditch and rolled 3 times is now facing a homicide charge after his passenger died.

Jose Manuel Acevedo was arrested after the crash happened around 4 p.m. Saturday, the Yamhill County Sheriff’s Office said. Acevedo was allegedly driving a 1996 Chevy Cavalier when he lost control on Burns Road near Brown Road.

His passenger, 48-year-old Maria Edith Naranjo Chavez, died at the scene.

Acevedo, 42, is being held in the Yamhill County Jail on DUII and criminally negligent homicide charges.

The investigation remains open.
