VANCOUVER, Wash. (KOIN) — The problems plaguing care for veterans remain an issue at the VA, though there have been a few bright spots over the past year.

On Monday, VA leaders in Vancouver noted the turnover rate for nurses is higher than the national average, but that wait times for veterans seeking care have improved. At this time, more than 94% of those veterans are seen within 30 days.

“Overe the course of the last 3 years, VA has converted 500,000 tons of paper — the equivalent of 200 Empire State Buildings stacked one on another — into our fully electronic system,” said Walt Streitberger, the director of veterans benefits in Portland.

A town hall meeting is set for Monday night in Vancouver where VA leadership will be answering questions about veterans care.
