MERLIN, Ore. (KOIN) -– A Josephine County man is charged with first-degree animal abuse.

Lynn Gary Toothman posted bail and was released from jail after he was arrested for shooting his neighbor’s dog on November 3. He was reportedly upset with its barking and, according to court documents, walked over to his neighbor’s house and shot the dog in its neck.

The condition of the dog has not been released but according to court documents the dog did suffer “serious physical injury.”

Merlin, Ore. is about a 4 hour drive south of Portland along Interstate 5.

Records show Toothman entered a not guilty plea and is due in court later this month.
