Most political candidates play themselves on "SNL," often for just a cameo in a sketch or to declare the show's famous tag line, "Live from New York, it's Saturday night!" Seldom do they play a character in a sketch, as did Clinton. (Dana Edelson/NBC via AP)

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — In the afternoon of October 11, 1975, Bill Clinton married Hillary Diane Rodham. Later that night, the show now known as Saturday Night Live debuted.

Bill and Hillary were married in Fayetteville, Arkansas, and despite some very public troubles in their marriage, they remain together.

“NBC Saturday Night” debuted that night with George Carlin as the first host. The show has had its own troubles, but many casts later it continues to roll on as a cultural touchstone still guided by producer Lorne Michaels.

Recently, Hillary appeared on SNL as a bartender talking to a comedian portraying Hillary.

So after 40 years in the public eye, both Bill & Hillary and Saturday Night Live roll on.
