Bones turned out to be a bear paw

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Bones discovered in an alley near Sitton Elementary School in the St. Johns neighborhood were reported to police as a severed and decomposed human hand.

Word of the discovery spread through the neighborhood as parents picked up their children around 3 p.m. Friday.

It was nothing so gruesome.

A police spokesman said the remains found near NE Lomband and Reno turned out to be a bear paw.
