PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — The Oregon State Police arrested two men on Thursday in connection to the kidnapping and rape of two teenage girls.
James Borchers, 50, of Portland and Joseph Cheek, 32, of Christmas Valley were arrested in Klamath County and charged with kidnapping and rape.
The attack allegedly occurred late Wednesday night in Redmond when two 17-year-old girls from Prineville were at a Walmart when their car broke down. Two men pulled up and offered to let the girls sit in their car. They were then held and gunpoint and the men drove off with the girls inside the car.
According to the OSP, the victims believe they were drugged because they lost consciousnesses.
They recall being on Highway 20 east of Bend and then at a residence in Christmas Valley. Sometime during the day they managed to escape and notify law enforcement.
The suspects were thought to have stolen a Chevrolet Tahoe after the Lake County Sheriff’s Office received a report as such. The stolen Chevy Tahoe was spotted by an OSP Trooper in Klamath County and the two men were arrested.
Law enforcement is seeking the public’s assistance on any information they may have. If anyone observed Cheek or Borchers in the area of Redmond Walmart the evening of September 23 or anywhere the day of September 24. The public’s assistance is also requested in locating a silver or gray Toyota 4-runner that the suspects were seen operating the night the incident occurred.
