SALEM, Ore. (AP) – Democratic state Sen. Floyd Prozanski will not face a recall election.
The Oregon secretary of state’s office said Friday that recall organizers fell just over 200 signatures short of the 8,415 that they needed.
Prozanski was one of four Democratic lawmakers to face recall attempts over the passage of a bill requiring background checks on private gun sales.
Recall organizer Patricia Michaelson-Duffy says she’s disappointed in the result, and a lot of people worked hard to collect the signatures.
Angela Martin of the recall opposition group Oregon Democracy Fund says the failure to collect enough signatures shows that lawmakers don’t need to fear supporting gun restrictions.
