CAVE JUNCTION, Ore. (AP) – Oregon State Police have identified three people who died and several injured in a vehicle crash on Highway 199 near Cave Junction.

The Oregonian reports 26-year-old Joshua Gibson of Costa Mesa, California, was driving north Thursday afternoon with four passengers in a Buick sedan when he passed a car in a no-passing zone.

The Buick collided head-on with a Ford pickup driven by 44-year-old Michael Nolan of Cave Junction.

Three Buick passengers – Christopher Burke, Claire Honsaker and Steve Stinson – died at the scene or on the way to a hospital.

Gibson was seriously injured and taken to a Portland hospital while Kean Krause was taken to a local hospital. All list Costa Mesa as their hometown.

Nolan suffered minor injuries. Officers say they are investigating and that alcohol may have been a factor in the crash.
