PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN 6) – A 47 year old man has now been linked to a shooting that nearly killed another man in Northeast Portland.

Billy Troy Ballastressi is charged with attempted murder with a firearm, felon in possession of a firearm, unlawful use of a weapon with a firearm, and first-degree assault with a firearm. Those charges, police say, stem from a shooting that happened in the area of Northeast 72nd and Wygant on May 30 at 12:47 a.m. in the Cully neighborhood.

Police say that 39 year old Tyrone Deshawn Burns had life-threatening injuries as a result of the shooting.

On July 11, officers assigned to the Gang Enforcement Team arrested Ballastressi and discovered that he was wearing a bulletproof vest. When the officers searched him, they also found a gun, cocaine, heroin and meth, according to a police spokesperson.

For the incident, the grand jury indicted Ballastressi with charges of being a felon in possession of a firearm, being a felon in possession of body armor, unlawful possession of heroin, meth and cocaine.

Ballastressi will be arraigned on the grand jury’s indictment on Monday, according to court records. He has remained in custody ever since his arrest on July 11.
