MILL CITY, Ore. (KOIN) — Fire destroyed the Mill City Library, a Linn County sheriff’s substation and a city maintenance facility Thursday.

The fire began shortly before noon when a public works employee parked some small equipment in the building. Officials said the man said a small fire and tried to douse it with a nearby water hose.

When he couldn’t contain it, he ran from where he was and alerted everyone to evacuate.

The 7440-square foot facility is a total loss, with a combined value of $900,000, officials said.

The sheriff’s substation contained computers, files, desks and other office equipment. That equipment loss has not yet been calculated.

No one was hurt.
