PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — More than 200 people showed up to a “Know Your Rights” training organized by the group Don’t Shoot PDX.

Organizers of the rally at Dawson Park encouraged those attending to bring donations of school supplies for local students. Grammy nominee Janelle Monae appeared shortly after 2 p.m.

She and other took to the stage and sang a group song without accompaniment. Monae tweeted she has a free show at Roseland at 7 p.m.

Organizer Teressa Raiford said, “People locally have to take an opportunity to make this their responsibility, as well. We have to be accountable for making the changes that we all wish to see.”
