PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – A longtime activist accused of having sex with a 15-year-old boy is hosting a fundraiser next month for the Multnomah County Democratic Party.

Terrence Bean recently contributed $5,000 to the county party and is scheduled to host a “VIP Party” at his home next month. Bean is scheduled to go on trial Sept. 1 on sex abuse and sodomy charges.

Multnomah County Democratic Party spokeswoman Sue Hagmeier tells the Oregonian that Bean is an old friend, and it’s hard to “pile on” him when he’s accused of a crime but not convicted.

Bean has pleaded not guilty.

Bean is a Portland real estate developer who helped found two national political groups. He has been a major contributor for several Democratic presidential candidates.
