CRATER LAKE, Ore. (AP) — Park officials say they’re closing the north entrance to Crater Lake National Park so firefighters can prepare lines and do other work on a blaze burning in the park’s northwest corner.
The park said Sunday that the north entrance closes 10 p.m. Sunday. It’s unclear when it will reopen. The south entrance, accessed from Route 62, remains open.
The Pacific Crest Trail will also temporarily close from the park’s north boundary to the junction with Lightning Springs Trail.
The fire is part of the National Creek Complex fire, which has burned nearly 8 square miles since lightning ignited it Aug. 1.
Fire crews are focusing on the north flank to prevent the fire from spreading across Highway 230 and toward Diamond Lake.
