PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — One motorcyclist critically injured in a crash with a truck delivering blood died days after the collision.

Robert Gabriel, 32, was hit by a truck delivering blood to the Red Cross in North Portland around 2:40 a.m. Sunday at N. Williams Avenue and Monroe Street, police said. The truck turned from Williams onto Monroe and hit the motorcycle.

Investigators said Tuesday the truck driver was making a legal left turn from Williams onto Monroe when the motorcyclist tried to pass him on the left. He crashed into the truck, throwing him and his passenger, Tasheena Kuehl, off

Kuehl was seriously hurt. The 29-year-old remains hospitalized and is expected to recover.

The 29-year-old driver of the blood-delivering truck was also injured.

Authorities said they believe speed and alcohol were factors in Gabriel’s driving and crash.
