GRESHAM, Ore. (KOIN) — One man is dead and another wounded in a shootout in Gresham that happened at the Halsey Station Apartments.

The shooting happened during the late daylight hours of Saturday and residents said they heard what sounded like a gunfight. But investigators aren’t sure what happened just yet.

“Two shooters, one is deceased and the other is at the hospital,” said Gresham police officer Malaka Kerbs. “But, we just don’t know who was what, if one was defending himself and one was not.”

Apartment resident Annie Sherman told KOIN 6 News she heard 8 to 10 shots. “They were pretty much continuous,” she said. When she walked outside she said she saw one man laying on the ground.

That man died at the scene. The other man was rushed to a hospital for treatment. Witnesses said one woman was covered in blood as she tried to help one of the men.

Another resident, Noah Adler, said he’s worried about his safety and the safety of the kids who play in the neighborhood.

“It’s just not OK, there’s a lot of kids around here,” he said. “Our whole block is full of kids and seeing this happen, it’s just not cool by any means.”

The names of the men invovled in the shootout have not been released. The investigation continues.
