PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A man suffered life-threatening injuries after a hit-and-run in Southeast Portland Wednesday afternoon, authorities told KOIN 6 News.
Shortly before 1:30 p.m., East Precinct officers were called to the Taco Bell parking lot at SE 126th Avenue and Division Street, Portland Police Bureau said.
When officers arrived, they found a 48-year-old Kevin McNerney with traumatic injuries. Investigators revealed he may have been in an altercation with a woman who hit him with her car before driving away from the scene, police said.
“I saw the man’s body laying in the parking lot,” witness Charity Ragland said. “I saw the ambulance and police pull up and then I heard multiple stories from multiple people.”
Ragland, who works across the street from the Taco Bell, said customers came in with differing stories of what happened.
“There was another customer that came in that said she saw them when they hit the Taco Bell parking lot, arguing back and forth with each other,” Ragland said. “She ran over him again, so she was deliberately trying to kill this person.”
Homicide detectives are investigating the crash as a potential assault due to the man’s condition. Police said the victim was hurt badly enough that the incident could have been intentional.
The man was taken to a local hospital where he is currently listed in critical condition.
The woman was reportedly driving a dark-colored 2012 or 2013 Chevrolet Equinox SUV with yellow Oregon plates.
