PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Four people were injured after a boat crashed into the Hawthorne Bridge Tuesday evening, officials said.
Around 7:40 p.m., PF&R responded to a boat accident on the Willamette River. When they arrived, they found a 16-foot aluminum boat with front-end damage.
The boat was reportedly traveling 30 mph when it struck the Hawthorne Bridge, police said.
Two teen girls sustained injuries in the crash and were taken to Doernbecher Hospital. Two men in their 20s were taken to OHSU. One of them was entered into the trauma system due to facial injuries and a possible neck injury, fire officials said.
All of the patients were said to be in stable condition, and authorities on Wednesday said alcohol was not at all a factor in this incident.
Rather, officials said, an inexperienced boat driver caused the crash. He may be cited for careless or improper outlook.
