CORBETT, Ore. (KOIN) — A tree fell on a passing car along the Historic Columbia River Highway killing one man and injuring two women.

The accident happened just east of Latourel Falls around 2:55 p.m., the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office. The tree fell from a hill on the east side of the road and crushed the top of the car, which then ran off the side of the road and stopped on an embankment.

The driver, Covington, Washington resident Jorge Figueroa Roman, 27, died at the scene. The women – Vancouver residents Rosalba Ortega, 57, and 20-year-old Rosa Ortega, were taken to the hospital and are expected to recover. A 1-year-old child in the back seat was not hurt.

No names have yet been released and the investigation continues.
