PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — The 92-degree heat may have helped encourage some people to take off their clothes for the Naked Bike Ride. But thousands would have done it regardless of the temperature.

It took 90 minutes to launch everyone who lined up at Colonel Summers Park to begin the annual worldwide event. Many in the line said they were first-timers but they all were mostly or completely in the buff.

“I would go naked to Starbucks,” one man said. Others put costumes on — “a glittery fairy,” or a horse’s head mask.

Officially the reason for the Portland Naked Bike Ride is to promote bicycle safety.

Unofficially it was for some laughs and some, uh, memorable photos.
