SALEM, Ore. (KOIN) — Alert neighbors in Salem helped catch a suspected burglar.
Salem Police officials said they received a call at 1:00 a.m. Tuesday morning from a person who reported their neighbor’s alarm system going off. Police determined the person’s car had been broken into and several items, including the garage door opener, were stolen.
While police were searching the neighborhood of 1900 Banyan Ct., a resident a few blocks away called 911 to report their car was broken into. A garage door opener was taken in that theft too.
Police found the suspect hiding in some bushes a few blocks away. Police said 20-year-old Sam Loyd was found with the garage door openers on him, as well as other stolen property.
According to police, Loyd intended to return to the homes and go inside using the stolen garage door openers.
Police said this serves as a reminder to never leave items in your car, now matter how invaluable you think they might be.
