HOCKINSON, Wash. (KOIN) — One of two Clark County inmates who took off from a work crew in Hockinson Tuesday afternoon has been found, but deputies are still asking for the public’s help locating the other man.

According to the Washington Department of Corrections, Donald William McLain, 33, was apprehended without incident sometime Tuesday night.

McLain, and 44-year-old Randall Jacob Marlow — who is still on the loose — were clearing brush and trimming bushes with 8 others at Clark Rifles on Rawson Road. The crew had just one supervisor, and around 1:30 p.m. he noticed the pair had gone missing.

“It’s probably fairly easy to do because our one officer keeps an eye on all 10 offenders,” Danette Gadberry with Larch Corrections Center said.

Last November, 2 other prisoners walked away from a work crew of 10, but they were caught less than 90 minutes later.

“They go through a strict review,” Gadberry said. “They have no sex crimes, they have no violent crimes, if they escaped in the past they don’t go on a work crew.”

Seven hours after McLain and Marlow bolted from the rifle range in Hockinson, police were still scouring the area. Some residents told KOIN 6 News they received an automated warning call, but not immediately after the escape.

“We need to verify for sure that they’ve escaped, so that takes a while,” Gadberry explained. “We go through counts.”

According to Gadberry, the corrections facility tries to reach everyone within a 20 mile radius through their automated warning calls. If neighbors aren’t getting alerts, they can sign up for them by contacting the center.

McLain is serving time for forgery, theft and drug violations. He is described as 6-feet-6-inches tall, 189 pounds with brown hair, brown eyes and tattoos on his arms. Marlow was behind bars for property crimes in Snohomish County. He is described as 5-feet-9-inches tall, 147 pounds with blue eyes, brown hair and numerous tattoos on his arms.

“We’re mapping everything, everybody’s picking a section and we’re going to find them,” Gadberry said.

The Larch Corrections Center is located at 15314 NE Dole Valley Road in Yacolt, about 20 miles northeast of Vancouver.

Anyone with information is asked to call 911 immediately.
