PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A 42-year-old was allegedly attacked by a man armed with a machete Sunday night, and police are currently looking for the suspect.
Central Precinct officers were called to the Eastbank Esplanade just north of Taylor Street at 8 p.m. and found a man who suffered a serious injury to one of his arms, Portland Police Bureau said.
The first officer on the scene applied a tourniquet to stop the bleeding while they waited for medical personnel to arrive, officials said. The victim was transported to a local hospital and is expected to survive his injuries.
Witnesses on the scene told police the victim and suspect were both homeless. They were reportedly involved in some kind of altercation when the suspect revealed a machete and slashed the victim. The suspect allegedly ran off going north on Eastbank Esplanade, but officers were unable to locate him.
The suspect is described as a white man in his 20s with long hair or a bandana. He was reportedly shirtless wearing blue jeans.
Based on preliminary information, officers believe the victim and suspect knew each other.
