ALOHA, Ore. (KOIN) — A convicted felon was arrested early Sunday morning after he reportedly robbed a driver at taser point and fled the scene, officials said.
Shortly after 2 a.m., deputies received a call regarding a tow trick driver who blocked in another motorist and stole his keys before leaving the scene, Washington County Sheriff’s Office said.
The victim told authorities 43-year-old Steven Lankford got out of a tow truck and pointed a taser at him while demanding his keys. The victim, who feared for his safety, complied. Lankford reportedly backed into a parked car as he attempted to leave the area.
Deputies were able to locate Lankford’s tow truck within 6 minutes of the reported robbery. Lankford told investigators the victim was driving recklessly and he was just trying to stop him.
Lankford, who is a convicted felon, was in illegal possession of a taser at the time of the incident, officials said. He was arrested for felony possession of a restricted weapon, second degree robbery, unlawful use of a weapon, menacing and failure to perform duties of a driver (hit and run).
He is lodged in Washington County Jail on $250,000 bail.
